As most of you know, we are working on an update for SAGA. What you may or may not know is that I am rewriting the entire game from scratch in a new engine. This new engine will allow us to greatly improve the visuals of the game, and it will also make updating and adding new content to the game much, much easier. And finally, the new engine will allow us to release the game on any platform we want, starting with Windows, Mac, and Linux.

This rewrite will take some time, but I have made quite a bit of progress on it already. Since we're trying to be completely open about everything, I'm going to start by letting you know that I am working on this in my spare time, without pay, for a few hours every day. So please keep that in mind when you ask about a release date.

The goal is to recreate SAGA exactly as it is right now so we can get the update out as quickly as possible, and then update the game with new features. However, it may turn out that some features will be cut because we have big plans for them in an upcoming update. Some examples might be University tech upgrades, territory raiding, and the item shop. The quests (there are hundreds of them) also have to be completely redone, and so we may pick and choose there, but we'll try as hard as we can to get them all done.

Please note that this is a separate server and client, but all your hard work will be converted over when you're ready, you will not lose any data! The current SAGA client and server will also still be available as needed, even after development of the new SAGA client is complete

dude, you really need to work on the publicity of this project

Open a indieDB page or something...you need more people to know about this project

Thanks, that is a good idea. When I decide to make the rewrite "publicized" I will do something like that.

If there's any way to dig up the email addresses of everyone who played SAGA long ago, it would be really good for a newsletter. Are you able to retrieve that information somehow?

Yes of course, but validating them to all be correct, usable, and not from their alts is tricky/impossible.

Out of hundreds of thousands of emails, I decided to limit it to just emails attached to accounts that have created at least one nation and leveled up to at least level 2. Should be good I think!

That should be perfect! :)

If you send out a newsletter, I wonder if it would be possible to offer a "welcome back" gift somehow. Some sort of incentive to get people back to check out the game might get a good response.

I've thought about it. Any suggestions on a gift?

I remember the Rhyax card being special to players since it was hard to get, although it became easier to get one through tournament tokens. A Rhyax would probably be the best thing I can think of at the moment, though. The Ice Drake was also a special card that the old-school players really enjoyed, as was Swifty McLoot.

Other than special cards, I'm unsure of alternate ideas for gifts to offer long-lost returning players.

I can't wait to try the game out natively in linux! I was super happy to see the greenlight steam thing as well. This game is too awesome to just fade. Will physical boosters be returning as well? Digital boosters are nice, but there's just something about the physical packs. I was looking online last night and only found one place that had a single pack.

I remember this being asked several years ago, and the answer was that it would be cost-prohibitive to do this. Although I did like the marketing concept of offering physical boosters in brick and mortar gaming stores, which reaches more potential new customers. That's how I discovered this game.

We are officially out of physical booster packs as of last week :( we are looking into a re-print since we love giving them out at conventions and as Kickstarter rewards for Arrowstorm Entertainment's films.
